Why This is the BEST Breakfast

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE can agree that if you want a breakfast that will really fill you up and give you energy to tackle the day ahead, it has to be oatmeal. Whether you like a steamy bowl of easy overnight steel cut oats or a serving of protein cauliflower oats with sauteed strawberries is more your thing, they are the PERFECT breakfast. This maple brown sugar oatmeal recipe is probably going to become one of your new favorites, because it has the perfect touch of sweetness and the deep, richness of flavor that comes with maple syrup. Plus, it’s SO easy to whip up for an easy meal in the morning, and it’ll warm you up from the inside out.

Is Maple and Brown Sugar Healthy?

Maple syrup is a natural sweetener as it is derived from maple trees. Although it is very sweet, it is not a processed type of sugar. While brown sugar is a processed sugar, this recipe only calls for 1 Tablespoon of it, so it’s not a ton. You could also use coconut sugar in place of brown sugar to make your homemade maple brown sugar oatmeal.

What are the benefits of maple brown sugar oatmeal?

Oatmeal with brown sugar and maple syrup has a lot of health benefits. Oats provide energy and have a lot of vitamins and minerals. Maple syrup lowers inflammatory diseases with antioxidants and helps with better digestion, like oatmeal. Brown sugar is a better alternative to white sugar. It is less processed which means it can easily be broken down by the body and is a good source of energy when taken in
reasonable amounts.

What kind of Oats to use?

To make my maple and brown sugar oatmeal, I used quick 1 minute oats. It’s important to use quick oats rather than another type of oats if you want to follow this recipe correctly, as other varieties may take longer to cook. If you only have regular rolled oats, they will likely work just as long as you cook the oatmeal for longer, until they are tender.

Ingredients Needed

You’re in luck with this recipe because the list of ingredients you will need is short and sweet, and you may even already have everything in your pantry. Here’s the rundown on what you will need to make this maple brown sugar oatmeal:

  • Quick 1 Minute Oats
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Brown Sugar
  • Maple Syrup

How to Make Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal

The list of ingredients is short and sweet, and making this oatmeal is SO simple, too! Here’s how:

Combine

In a small pot, add the oats, cinnamon and salt, stirring to combine with a wire whisk.

Cook

Add the water, bringing the mixture to a boil while stirring. Cook for 1 minute or until oats have thickened.

Serve

Let stand for a few minutes, then stir in the brown sugar and maple syrup. DEVOUR!

Optional Add-Ins

If you want to kick your bowl of oatmeal up a notch at breakfast time, there are quite a few ways to jazz it up. If you want to add some fruit to the oatmeal, I would suggest some cooked apples. Their flavor will pair well with the brown sugar and maple syrup and the outcome will be absolutely delicious! If you want to add a swirl of peanut butter or almond butter to your bowl of oatmeal, that is a fantastic idea, too, as it can help balance out the carbs with some fat. If you want to boost the protein content, add a sprinkle of protein powder to the oatmeal.

Is oatmeal good for losing weight?

Yes, it is! Oatmeal contains a lot of soluble fiber. Which helps you feel full for longer periods of time. This will encourage you to eat less. Oatmeal also provides you with energy which it slowly releases to the body. This allows you to perform activities like exercise without you feeling hungry for a snack. Always get steal cut or rolled oats. The flavored ones have unnecessary sugar that contributes to unwanted belly fat.

Can you store cooked oatmeal?

Oatmeal is a staple breakfast item for many people. It provides a lot of health benefits like lowering your blood sugar, providing antioxidants, and promoting healthy bacteria in the tummy to name a few. And with the busy lifestyle most of us lead today making oatmeal in advance is nothing new. To maximize its shelf life store it in a tightly covered container or a resealable bag. This will keep oatmeal from spoiling for 3 to 5 days.

    5 stars
This came out nicely. My husband usually eats oatmeal begrudgingly but this he ate and seemed to enjoy.
It wasn’t too sweet even though I topped my serving with applesauce.
I will definitely be offering it to my two year old granddaughter whose tastes lean more to the savory than the sweet.
